2010 Hunting with AR-308 in Montana

A nice 6x6 bull elk was harvested in the current 2010 Montana hunting season at a distance of 80 feet in tight timber. A one shot kill through a space of 8" light of sight window through heavy snow ladened evergreen boughs. The bull dropped after 60 feet, with the bullet passing through the lungs and heart.
As seen in the photo, an SI Defense AR-308 rifle that features a Choate stock, free float carbine length tube handguard, SI Defense adjustable quad rail gas block, 16" M4 contour barrel chambered in .308 Win, SI Defense DRK compensator, Weaver extra tall scope rings and a Nikon 3x9 power scope with BDC reticle. Hornady ammunition was the ammunition of choice, handloaded with 180 grain SST Interlock bullets.
These photos are taken througout the season, from the early hunt of the pronghorn antelope, mid-season with the mule deer and later season with the elk. The SI Defense AR-308 truly is a rifle that you can hunt with in all seasons, with a variety of light to heavy game. These animals are all one-shot kills using the same 180 grain SST Interlock Hornady ammunition using the same rifle. Holes in paper are nice, meat in the freezer is nice too.

This mule deer buck was harvested in the current 2010 Montana hunting season at a distance of 40 yards in timber, one shot.

This pronghorn was harvested in the current 2010 Montana hunting season at a distance of 305 yards kneeling off hand. This is the same rifle pictured above. SI Defense AR rifles with even a 16" barrel are effectively accurate out to your longest shots.
